OUR VISION

To Make Peace a Verb

PeaceJam is a global youth movement led by 14 Nobel Peace Laureates. Through education, mentoring, service learning and action, it helps young people build the skills and confidence to respond to the challenges facing their communities and the wider world. PeaceJam Taiwan was established in 2024 under the leadership of Dr. Shen Hsin-Ling, extending this work into the Chinese-speaking world.

Dr. Hsin-Ling Shen — Founding Executive Director, PeaceJam Taiwan

Dr. Hsin-Ling Shen is a Taiwanese social innovator whose work spans education, technology, and grassroots community action. Raised in rural Yunlin County, she began using technology for public good at the age of 11, building an online platform to help local farmers reach buyers. She later created free digital learning resources for students and continued developing initiatives serving disadvantaged and underserved communities.

For more than two decades, Shen has combined fieldwork, education, and digital tools to expand access to opportunity and encourage young people to turn ideas into action. She holds a doctorate from National Taiwan University and has received national honors including Taiwan’s Presidential Innovation Award, the Presidential Education Award, and recognition as one of Taiwan’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons.

In 2024, Shen led the establishment of PeaceJam Taiwan, bringing PeaceJam’s Nobel Peace Laureate-inspired approach to peace education and youth leadership to Taiwan. Her work today connects local action with global citizenship, helping young people develop empathy, courage, and the practical capacity to respond to challenges in their communities and beyond.

Honoring Dr. Kate Cumbo’s 22 Years of Service to PeaceJam

Members of the PeaceJam community from around the world came together to celebrate Dr. Kate Cumbo and her decades of dedication to peace education. Nobel Peace Laureates and PeaceJam partners shared messages of gratitude for the leadership, curriculum development and global relationships she helped build.

PeaceJam Taiwan joined the celebration with a special creative tribute. Dr. Cumbo’s work—especially her contributions to youth leadership, anti-bullying education and educator training—has helped shape programs that continue to reach young people across cultures and borders.

Her legacy is a reminder that peace education grows through long-term commitment: one learner, one educator and one community at a time.
