8 Billion for Peace: Awakening an Era

PeaceJam

Where is peace?
In a world filled with war, violence, discrimination and injustice, peace can feel distant. Yet the question is urgent: what will we teach the next generation—peace or hatred? The Nobel Peace Project brings together the lived wisdom of 14 Nobel Peace Laureates as a compass for young people navigating an uncertain world. Its learning materials invite students to develop courage, wisdom, compassion, resilience and the ability to act.

The Power of Peace
The 14 Laureates come from different cultures and histories, yet each shows how ordinary people can create extraordinary change—from the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu to Kailash Satyarthi, Jody Williams, Tawakkol Karman, Shirin Ebadi, Betty Williams, Mairead Maguire, Rigoberta Menchú, José Ramos-Horta, Leymah Gbowee, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Óscar Arias and Joseph Rotblat. Their lives demonstrate that change can begin with one person and grow into a movement.

The Nobel Peace Project
Since PeaceJam was founded in the United States in 1996, more than 1.3 million young people in over 40 countries have participated. PeaceJam Taiwan, led by Dr. Shen Hsin-Ling, brings the experience and lessons of Nobel Peace Laureates to the Chinese-speaking world through youth summits, peace education, mentor training, school programs, workshops, forums and action projects.

8 Billion for Peace
Peace is not somewhere far away. It begins in the choices we make every day. The world needs fewer troublemakers and more peacemakers—people willing to respond to war, disease, climate crisis, poverty, discrimination and injustice with courage and cooperation. “8 Billion for Peace” is an invitation for every person to define peace through action and help write the next chapter together.
